LESSONS FROM MY GRANDMOTHER

LESSONS FROM MY GRANDMOTHER

My late maternal grandmother, Eglantine Melita Buchanan Gordon, was my first grade teacher in Jamaica at New Providence Primary School in Kingston.  She was from a small seaside town, called Lucea, in the western parish of Hanover, Jamaica.  She was a compassionate, faithful, and resourceful woman.  As a grandson in her first grade class, I learned that you are not granted any special privileges just because you have a special connection to the teacher.  When she knelt to pray every single morning at her bedside, I also learned from her that every single person in our lives deserves a life of dignity.  I miss her dearly, since she passed here in Miami in 2010, but am inspired by the many other lessons she conveyed by just being herself and sharing her values.

Like my late grandmother, I have benefitted from the lessons and values of the lives of other women over the years.   I am thankful to have received the benefit of their friendship, mentorship, business referrals, or emotional support.

Join me this Thursday, 6:30pm, on this journey to the Miami-Dade County Commission, District 9 for an evening of fellowship and networking with our extended family.  I need you there with me.
